Life is short…

Start here

When I first announced my run for Sheriff, I had a gentleman by the name of Dick Montgomery who sent me a message and wanted to meet with me. I met with Dick at his office for a couple of hours. He told me that he had been watching what I had been doing for the last few years and when I announced my run for Sheriff, he was very excited. Dick went on to tell me that he supported me and wanted to help with the campaign.

This man was so full of life, excitement and a tremendous love for his family and wife, Rowena. I had never met this man before, but in a matter of a couple short hours, I felt like I knew him my whole life. People told me that the best part of running for an office, is meeting some incredible people along the way. That statement is so true! Dick rooted me on, sent messages of encouragement, and always had a smile that you would never forget.

I received a text message from Dick the day of the Tremont Turkey Festival parade on June 10th. The message said “We would love to be there with you today, but I have received some devastating medical news recently that will not allow us to be there. I am sorry my friend. Good luck today!” A week later, Dick slipped away to meet Jesus. It all went so fast and left his family and all of us in shock and sad to lose someone like him!

Months before Dick passed away and even knew he was sick, I listened to a song by switchfoot called “Live it well”. The lyrics hit me and it became my personal theme song for this campaign. When Dick passed away, these lyrics became even more real and meaningful.

Take the burden from my arms
Take the anchors off my lungs
Take me broken and make me one
Break the silence and make it a song
Life is short; I wanna live it well
One life, one story to tell
Life is short; I wanna live it well
And you’re the one I’m living for
Awaken all my soul
Every breath that you take is a miracle
Life is short; I wanna live it well, yeah
I wanna sing with all my heart a lifelong song
Even if some notes come out right and some come out wrong
‘Cause I can’t take none of that through the door
Yeah, I’m living for more than just a funeral
I wanna burn brighter than the dawn
Life is short; I wanna live it well
One life, one story to tell
Life is short; I wanna live it well
And you’re the one I’m living for
Awaken all my soul
Every breath that you take is a miracle
Life is short; I wanna live it well, yeah
I got one life and one love
I got one voice, but maybe that’s enough
‘Cause with one heartbeat and two hands to give
I got one shot and one life to live
One life to live, yeah
And every breath you take is a miracle
Life is short; I wanna live it well
One life, one story to tell (one love)
Life is short; I wanna live it well
And you’re the one I’m living for (the one, yeah)
Awaken all my soul
Every breath that you take is a miracle
Life is short; I wanna live it well
And you’re the one I’m living for
One life, one love
(One love) One life, one love
(One voice) One voice, yeah
(And that’s enough) And that’s enough, oh
(One heartbeat, two hands to give)
I got one shot and one life to live
One life to live

I truly believe that my calling is to run for Sheriff. I have no idea how long God will give me life, but while I have it, I am committed to living it well, encouraging, building, believing, and loving. Thank you for believing in me and for your support to be the next Tazewell County Sheriff.
Mike
