There is one thing I know for sure…I have eaten a lot of Festival food this year! We have really enjoyed spending time in communities all over Tazewell County this year celebrating with them for their annual festivals. We just wrapped up a busy weekend at the Marigold Festival in Pekin. We even picked up a celebrity endorsement while there!
When we met Erik Estrada, he told me that he noticed I was running for Sheriff. He pulled out a piece of paper and made up a sign. He insisted that we help him color it in as well! It was great to be able to meet him since I grew up watching CHiPs! Actually, my brother and I would ride our bikes around the neighborhood together side by side pretending we were Ponch and John. We had little sirens on our bikes and would pull other kids over in the neighborhood. Great times!!
We met so many wonderful people. It really was encouraging to have so many people come out and offer their support to me. The parade was packed with so many smiling faces and, of course, the weather could not have been any better!
We had an all star team walk with us in the parade and I could not have been more proud of the group of people with us! Can you spot all of the characters in this picture? We had Mickey Mouse, Tigger, Bugs Bunny, and Winnie the Pooh join us for this parade! The kids absolutely loved it!
I was asked to emcee a question and answer program at the kids experience tent. This was a chance for kids to ask policemen questions about being a Police Officer. This was VERY entertaining and I am thankful to get this opportunity.
I also found a picture that looked a lot like me! Wait…it is me! Katelyn Price used sidewalk chalk and entered a contest were many people of all ages put their artistic abilities to great use! Katelyn took a picture of myself and a little boy named Ryker and drew this free hand. Katelyn did an amazing job!!
On Sunday afternoon, I went to Washington to attend the 9/11 remembrance service that they hold every year in Washington Park. This was a beautiful service which brought out hundreds of people. All of the sports teams, band, choir, cheerleaders, and other students attended and were a part of the program. The back drop consisted of fire trucks, ambulances, and police cars. Just before the service began, Life Flight landed one of their helicopters right next to the crowd. I am proud of Washington for faithfully holding this service each and every year to remember 9/11, and also pay tribute to first responders in our communities.
We are excited to be in Morton for the Pumpkin Festival this coming weekend! I hope to be able to meet you, if I have not already. Also, we have an exciting fundraiser coming up in Morton and I would love to see you there! We will be having a steak fry with special guest Matt Miller. Tickets are available online at www.eetenforsheriff.fund. Thank you for your support and for believing in me!
